Another magnificent and finely-balanced tawny of outstanding richness and complexity. The additional ten years of aging produces a fine balance between the rich, raisiny fruit and the nutty, honeyed finish - a taste to linger over. This rare port is traditionally enjoyed as a dessert wine or at the end of the meal.

Ultimate Beverage Challenge 91 points (May 2012) Pale pink-brown hue. Toffee, cumin-spice and a little rancio on the nose. Sweetness is balanced by lifted acidity. Dried fruits and nuts on the palate. Wine Spectator 92 points (May 2 2012) Very rich and elegant, this is loaded with flavors of dried apricot, butterscotch and white chocolate. The long and zesty finish is filed with smoke and toffee.—K.M. Ultimate Beverage Challenge 93 points (May 6/20) Ultimate Wine Challenge 2011 Chairman's Trophy. The nose is charming and complex with notes of roasted nuts, orange peel, dried cherries and apricots with accents of brown baking spices. This beautiful Port’s greatest quality is its deft balance of mature barrel aged notes with vibrant fruit making this an ideal choice for an aperitif or dessert. It is my opinion that Taylor's tawny ports are the best of their type. When tasted against other tawnys, they all exhibit more aromatic personalities, greater fruit and ripeness, and a wonderful sweetness and length. Although I find the Thirty Year Old Tawny admirable, I prefer the richer, more vibrant Twenty Year Old Tawny. A fruity old tawny, with plum and almond character and hints of honey and caramel. Medium-bodied, medium finish. Fresh style. Drink now. 6,000 cases made. –JS Although this famous name has produced quite a light 20-year-old, that lightness is more than made up for by the beautiful, smooth flavors, the taste of lemon jelly, dried apricots and peaches, and fine, fresh acidity. |
