A wine with a prestigious name and origins lost in legend, which entranced the great Voltaire in 1700. The grape is Piedirosso, mentioned by Pliny two thousand years ago. It is grown, in soil rich in ash, in the area surrounding Vesuvius. The fiery passion of the land finds direct expression in the wine, even after long aging.
Food pairing
A major wine, to be matched with well-flavoured dishes such as pasta or polenta with meat-based sauces; ideal for sophisticated red meats; an imaginative and surprising companion to grilled swordfish.
